Elder's Meditation of the Day August 1

Elder's Meditation of the Day August 1
"Everyone has to find the right path. You can't see it so it's hard to find. No one can show you. Each person has to find the path by himself."
--Charlie Knight, UTE
There are certain times in our lives when a voice whispers to us. The voice doesn't always talk. Usually we hear it best when we are sick and tired of being sick and tired. Inside every person is the knowledge that a Supreme Being exists. Sometimes a restlessness occurs and it makes me feel I need to be doing something or I need to be going somewhere or maybe I start wondering who am I? Often when this happens, I feel lost. Inside of everyone is the natural, built-in desire to be walking the Red Road, or to be seeking a relationship with the Creator. No one can force us to make this journey. We must make this journey because we want to. This journey is not on the outside. The path is inside of ourselves. It is inside that we must begin our search.
Oh Great Spirit, help me this day to look within myself. If trouble arises, let me realize that it's not what is going on but how I am looking at what is going on. Give me Your power this day to conduct myself according to Your way of life.

Elder's Meditation of the Day July 31

Elder's Meditation of the Day July 31
Look behind you. See your sons and your daughters. They are your future. Look farther and see your sons' and your daughters' children and their children's children even unto the Seventh Generation. That's the way we were taught. Think about it: you yourself are a Seventh Generation."
--Leon Shenandoah, ONONDAGA
The Creator designed us with a free will. That means we function from choices and consequences. It is important that we practice thinking about consequences before we make decisions about choices. Every choice I make is like setting up dominos one after the other that produce consequences. Not just for me but also for my children and for the children that are unborn. My choices and decision today will have consequences for seven generations. For example, if I work on my own spiritual development and I walk the Red Road, the odds are that my children will. They will marry and their children will follow the Red Road and so will my grandchildren even up to the seventh generation. This will happen because of the choices and decisions that I make today.
Great Spirit, grant that the choices and decisions that I make today will honor Your laws and values. May I live in peace today that will ripple into the seventh generation.

Elder's Meditation of the Day July 29

Elder's Meditation of the Day July 29
"When we want to talk to Him we burn tobacco and it takes our prayers all the way up to the Sky World."
--Louis Farmer, ONONDAGA
Our herbs and our medicines are all here for the purpose of serving. Offering tobacco as a gift to the Creator is proper use of our medicine. In this way, we are able to communicate from the physical world to the spiritual world. Sometimes we have a hard time coming up with the right words when we pray, especially if we are really mixed up. The tobacco and the sage will take the intent to the spirit world. The meaning behind the words are more important the the words. The Creator always knows our intent. The tobacco helps us get to the Sky World.
Today, my Creator, I offer You this tobacco. I want to thank You for being in my life. I want to tell You how much I appreciate the honor of being here to serve You. Tell me this morning what I can do for You. You are the reason I live.

Dear Drivers,

Kirsten Krumvieda added 3 new photos.
I know I don't own a truck or trailer yet... but my beloved horse, as well as many other sweet horses I know, get hauled around for shows, vet appointments, training, competitions, trails, whatever - so please read and remember this the next time you're driving and see a horse trailer...
Dear Drivers,
My most valued possession is inside the trailer behind my truck. She stepped into that rolling steel box because I asked her to and she trusts me. She's a living, breathing creature, and all 1200lbs of her are precariously balanced on four tiny hoofs as my truck and trailer wind down the road.
My horse is not a boat or camp trailer, and I cannot stop quickly or turn sharply without risking her safety and even her life.
Know that I will do just about anything to avoid hitting the brakes with a horse in my trailer. However, if your Suburban is hidden in the blind spot behind my horse trailer and I do have to stop suddenly, you’re too close to stop without ending up in the trailer with my horse.
When I make those wide turns, I need them to prevent my horse from scrambling. Please give me room and time to turn.
And that large distance between me and the car in front of me? It might look like enough room to fit three sedans bumper to bumper, but it’s actually the distance I need to stop softly and safely without my horse falling.
Those times when we’re headed up a hill, my speed is as fast as I can go. My foot has the accelerator pressed to the floor, and no matter how hard you try, your Honda can’t push us up this hill. I promise I’ll move to the right lane when it becomes available or pull over if I find a safe spot on the shoulder, but until then I ask for your patience and some space.
Lastly, my set up weighs 3 tons, and that much weight prevents me from swerving. When you pass me going 80mph uphill on a blind corner, you don’t just put my horse at risk: Your driving threatens the lives of the oncoming driver, my passenger, me, you, and everyone in the cars behind us.
So next time you see a horse trailer, assume an animal’s in there. Please give the them some space and offer some patience. By driving safely, we’ll all get where we’re going.
Thank you,
Horse owner.

I Wish.....

I Wish.....

It's been nice sitting on the back porch, listening to the sounds of life in my backyard.

But I wish I was out in the woods some where with trees, a creek not far so I can hear the water; buzzing from the Hummingbirds searching for food; bees darting back & forth doing their thing. Listening to the dogs move from sun to shade every few minutes. The horses strolling across the yard for a drink of water while looking for a different patch of shade. A light breeze just touching the leaves in a tree. Every so often a dog will come on the porch, to the bucket I put out for them. I'll either hear big heavy lapping from Syenna or very  soft, almost dainty lapping from Myschief.

Yes, I'm back in my own yard. But that's OK, I'll keep dreaming about being out in the woods. I'm hoping this dream will come to pass soon. I believe I need to go absorb new strength from the woodlands. With all that live there.

The more I hurt, the harder it is to "keep a happy face". The more I hurt, the harder it is for me to control my weight and health. I'm not trying to make excuses, and that may be what they are.

But it's a fact. I'm trying to be happy, but it's work.

Good Morning

The Red Road

Elder's Meditation of the Day July 28
"A good heart and a good mind - those are what you need to be a chief."
--Louis Farmer, ONONDAGA
The combination of heart and mind is very powerful. The Medicine Wheel teaches that two worlds exist - the seen and the unseen. The seen world is the physical and the unseen is the spiritual world. Both of the worlds are necessary to discover true reality. The seen world is easiest seen by the male side. The unseen is easiest seen by the female side. The heart is the unseen and the mind is the seen. Blessed is the leader or person who has developed the heart and the mind. Truly, the person is of tremendous value to the Creator and the people.
My Great Spirit, help me this day to develop both my female side and my male side. Let me know all the feelings of each, let me develop and grow my intuition and my mind. Let my development only serve You.
