| "The one who wishes to be a true medicine person must be a person of faith, and they can only work successfully with those who also have faith." | |
| --Fools Crow, LAKOTA | |
| Medicine People are spiritual beings who have made a decision to seek the Red Road. They sacrifice and seek the way of the Creator. After many years of dedication, the Grandfathers teach them about power, and about laws, and about how to use the medicine. The Medicine People develop tremendous faith in their medicine and in the Creator. When we go to the Medicine People, we too must have faith so they can help us. We can only be helped if we want to be helped. Because the Medicine People know how to help - that is only one half of it. The other half is up to us. We must have faith that the medicine has powers to help. | |
My Creator, faith is belief without evidence. Today, give me the faith. Let me trust that You are running my life. Let me know You are in charge of all things. Let my mind not wonder; let me stand strong on Your path today.

Apple cake

You're going to just DIE over this recipe!...
2 SIMPLE ingredients: 1- 21oz can of apple (or fruit of your choice) pie filling and 1 box of angel food cake mix.....that's it! NOTE: you MUST use the ONE-STEP (the kind that only requires water) cake mix for this to work....but DO NOT add the water!
Mix the 2 ingredients together (the dry packet of cake mix and the undrained can of fruit/filling) pour in a greased 9x13 pan or dish and bake for about 20 minutes at 350 (or according to baking directions on the box).
People....it can't get ANY easier than this! A dollop or 3 of ice cream finishes it off perfectly

| "The god that people reject is not the true god, it is a god they have conjured up apart from proper education, and understanding. In such cases, the least Fools Crow will do is to call their assumptions into question, and force them to re-evaluate their position." | |
| --Thomas Mails on Fools Crow, LAKOTA | |
| Inside of every person - man, woman, and child - is the knowledge that there is a Supreme Being. Many of us have been taught that the Creator is a punishing God. We have been taught about feelings of guilt and shame when we do things wrong. We have been taught that God gets angry and disappointed with us. The Elders teach us that the Creator is a loving and forgiving God. He loves us during our good days and He loves us during our bad days. He doesn't know how to do anything but love. If I really want to find out about the true God, I only need to ask in prayer. There is one thing that God cannot do and that is refuse help to one of His children who asks. | |
My Creator, I ask You to be a part of my life today. Whisper to me Your wisdom. Let me feel Your presence. If I am doubtful and afraid, show me, in terms I can understand, You are real.
Symbolic Meaning of the Raven in Native American Culture
Native American Raven Dancing (Video)
Native American culture is embedded with extensive tales and legends. Every aspect of life, death, and existence has its own story to explain why things are the way they are. Often, different Native American tribes had very similar beliefs, but most tribes have their own unique variations in the details of these legends.
The raven also has a prominent role in the mythologies of the Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast, including the Tsimishian, Haida, Heiltsuk, Tlingit, Kwakwaka'wakw, Coast Salish, Koyukons, and Inuit. The raven in these indigenous peoples' mythology is the Creator of the world, but it is also considered a trickster god.
For instance, in Tlingit culture, there are two different raven characters which can be identified, although they are not always clearly differentiated. One is the creator raven, responsible for bringing the world into being and who is sometimes considered to be the individual who brought light to the darkness. The other is the childish raven, always selfish, sly, conniving, and hungry.
When the Great Spirit created all things he kept them separate and stored in cedar boxes. The Great Spirit gifted these boxes to the animals who existed before humans. When the animals opened the boxes all the things that comprise the world came into being. The boxes held such things as mountains, fire, water, wind and seeds for all the plants. One such box, which was given to Seagull, contained all the light of the world.
Seagull coveted his box and refused to open it, clutching it under his wing. All the people asked Raven to persuade Seagull to open it and release the light. Despite begging, demanding, flattering and trying to trick him into opening the box, Seagull still refused. Finally Raven became angry and frustrated, and stuck a thorn in Seagull's foot. Raven pushed the thorn in deeper until the pain caused Seagull to drop the box. Then out of the box came the sun, moon and stars that brought light to the world and allowed the first day to begin.
Bill Reid created the sculpture of The Raven and The First Men depicting a scene from a Haida myth that unifies the Raven as both the trickster and the creator. According to this myth, the raven who was both bored and well fed, found and freed some creatures trapped in a clam.
These scared and timid beings were the first men of the world, and they were coaxed out of the clam shell by the raven. Soon the raven was bored with these creatures and planned to return them to their shell. Instead, the raven decided to search for the female counterparts of these male beings.
The raven found some female humans trapped in a chiton, freed them, and was entertained as the two sexes met and began to interact. The raven, always known as a trickster, was responsible for the pairing of humans and felt very protective of them. With the Raven perceived as the creator, many Haida myths and legends often suggest the raven as a provider to mankind.

RCMP: PROTESTS HAVE BEEN PEACEFUL, SAFE
JUNE 18 2013 (Photo JUNE 19)
ELSIPOGTOG, NB- RCMP crews have maintained that the majority of the protests have been peaceful, safe and within the law.
It's a message that was reiterated yesterday in the video released by shale gas opponents.
'Please do not think that warrior is someone that has weapons and someone that wants to fight and create trouble,' said Amy Sock, second in command at the protests, who sat next to Levi in the taped message.
'A warrior is totally the opposite. A warrior protects the earth, a warrior's weapons are our medicines, our feather, our sage and tobacco. We have no weapons, we have no guns. We have nothing to fear. The police, where the sacred fire is lit (have said) it's very peaceful.'
While the protests have typically turned out groups of roughly only 50 to 150 members, Sock said that they are representing the interests of a larger group.
'We're doing this for all of you, the whole Atlantic provinces, not just New Brunswick, not just Kent County, not just Elsipogtog,' she said.
'We're doing this for all the Mi'kmaq people and all our neighbours, our friends. Once you call them 'settlers,' they are our friends, our neighbours. And they are black, red, yellow and white, and we are here to protect them all. All colours and all walks of life.' Sock added that they will not stop and can't allow shale gas exploration to continue in the province.
'We cannot risk the health of our children. Our treaties tell us from a long time ago that this will happen and that we are protectors of Mother Earth and we ask everybody - everybody: all colours, all races - from the whole Atlantic provinces to come to the site on Route 126 in Harcourt.'
